We are proud to share that Prof. Damena Agonafer has been named a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). This distinction is among ASME’s highest honors and recognizes his contributions to mechanical engineering research and education. The University of Maryland’s Department of Mechanical Engineering announced the recognition on September 2, 2026.
A Clark Faculty Fellow and associate professor at UMD, Prof. Agonafer leads research at the intersection of thermal fluid sciences, interfacial transport, and renewable energy. His work advances cooling technologies for high-powered electronics and data centers, with broader applications in HVAC systems and battery thermal management. A major focus is developing two-phase cooling systems that remove heat at the chip level while reducing energy demands.
This honor follows other national recognitions, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers announced in 2025 and the NSF CAREER Award in 2019. It reflects a sustained commitment to addressing energy and sustainability challenges through innovative thermal engineering.
